Joke aside, I'm using the clock to teach ASM and C.

The clock programming is actually very interesting in itself as you can learn ISR, sleeping and other things.

Would you be interested in some PCB I made for the AT89C2051, or do you prefer your perfboards 😉

I've been a bit lazy designing PCBs(!!), though I was in fact thinking of doing the AT89C2051 Breadboard Adapter, and have an idea in the backlog to do a full programmer board with the arduino on board (instead of just a shield.
But yes, very interested in what PCBs you've done. Have you published the designs somewhere?

Very interesting to hear you are using the clock to teach ASM and C. You remind me of our old disussion and your post on the clock, something I need to get back to. Did you make a new PCD for a more power-efficient design of the clock?

Here is a quick preview of what a breadboard adapter module could look like. I added a special header for TX/RX in order to be able to power and debug it easily from a USB/TTL adapter.

Yes, i settled on those kits on Aliexpress, but making a specific PCB that is compatible with their BOM. Again, having a UART header, removing the speaker and having some test points.

Also, for the full programmer board with the arduino directly on board, i actually started on a perfboard, but didn't finish, as in the end, it feels much practical to simply go for a shield, as those arduino boards clone go for very cheap nowadays and contain everything needed.

I even did a PCB the shield, but ended up staying with the breadboard version, which is quite sturdy if you look at the wires.

I should actually write a blog post on that teaching part. I cannot simply copy/paste it since it isn't open source, but I can definitely craft an open source version of it. Yet, was a long time ago...

And, I have a new version that is much less power hungry, but never went to manufacture it as my courses engagement ended 🤷
