fix(qwik-react): allow React 19 in the peer range - #9396
Published as @qwik.dev/react@2.0.0-rc.4, the current latest, so a project on React 19 cannot install it:
npm error ERESOLVE could not resolve
npm error peer react@"^18" from @qwik.dev/react@2.0.0-rc.4
Which side is behind
The dev dependency already moved — five manifests across this repo build against React 19 — and the peer range did not follow. So the peer is the side that is stale, which is why this widens the peer rather than pinning development back.
Change
Four lines: ^18 → ^18 || ^19 for react, react-dom, @types/react and @types/react-dom. Keeping 18 in range means existing consumers are unaffected.
Same shape as #8959, which widened the vitest peer for Vitest 4. That widen was not repeated for the next major: packages/qwik/package.json now has peer vitest >=2 <5 against dev 5.0.5, so the same drift is present there — I have left it alone because it is a separate package and a separate judgement.
I could not run your test suite here (the workspace is large and I only changed a manifest). If you would rather keep the peer at 18 and pin development back to React 18, that is the same four-line change in the other direction.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Chores
Updated React and React DOM peer dependency ranges to support versions 18 and 19.
packages/qwik-react declares react, react-dom and both @types as ^18 in
peerDependencies while pinning all four to 19.x in devDependencies. A project
on React 19 cannot install the package: npm error peer react@"^18" from
@qwik.dev/react@2.0.0-rc.4. The dev dependency is the side that already moved.
No actionable comments were generated in the recent review.
Walkthrough
The @qwik.dev/react package now accepts React and React DOM peer dependencies, including their type packages, at major versions 18 and 19. A changeset declares a patch release.
React 19 installation support is expanded while retaining React 18. React 18 consumers without pinned typings may receive incompatible declarations; merge with awareness of this bounded compatibility risk.

In an npm React DOM 18.2 project without pinned typings, this range can install React DOM 19 typings. TypeScript then accepts preinit, but React DOM 18.2 cannot provide it. Prevent automatic selection of typings that do not match the runtime.
