Description

VMPal Tools no longer appear to start after joining a Windows 11 VM to an Active Directory domain and rebooting. I need this VM to manage AD using Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start a Windows 11 VM in VMPal.
  2. Join the VM to an Active Directory domain.
  3. Reboot the VM.
  4. Sign in.

Current Behavior

  • The VM Tools icon is missing from the system tray.
  • Mouse input lags.
  • Display resolution does not automatically adjust when resizing the VM window.

Expected Behavior

VM Tools start normally after signing in, with the tray icon visible, smooth mouse input, and automatic display resizing.

Environment

  • App version: VMPal 0.69 (69)
  • Mac: MacBook Pro, Apple M5 Max, 128 GB RAM
  • macOS version: 27.0.1 (26A434)
  • VM's OS: Windows 11

It seems it's due Defender don't trust the VMPal Tools binary. Possible solution is to add it to exception list as one of the VM preparation steps.

@dcdamien we're working to submit this to Microsoft, but we are changing so fast that it would obsolete quickly. Please add the exception, we will try to resolve it as soon as possible with Microsoft.
