Hey there, I'm Farhan Islam

I work in software engineering leadership, with most of my experience sitting around eCommerce platforms, digital systems, solution architecture and delivery operations.

Over the last 13+ years, I have worked through different layers of technology, from hands-on development and systems problem-solving to leading engineering teams, shaping platform direction and supporting business-critical digital operations.

Currently, I lead software development at FiveTech Ltd, where my work involves engineering delivery, architecture direction, release control, platform reliability, vendor coordination and continuous improvement across live commerce platforms.

What I Enjoy Working On

I am most interested in technology that solves real business problems.

For me, software is not only about code or frameworks. It is about understanding the moving parts behind a business, the pressure points in a platform, the expectations of users and the risks that appear when systems start operating at scale.

I enjoy working on:

  • eCommerce platforms and digital commerce operations
  • Platform architecture and modernisation
  • Checkout, customer journey and conversion-related improvements
  • API design, integrations and connected business systems
  • Production reliability, uptime and incident reduction
  • Release governance and controlled delivery
  • Performance optimisation across frontend, backend and infrastructure layers
  • Engineering processes that make teams faster, clearer and more dependable

My Engineering View

I like practical engineering.

The best systems are usually not the most complicated ones. They are the ones that are clear enough to maintain, stable enough to trust and flexible enough to grow with the business.

I care about architecture, but only when it improves delivery, stability or long-term maintainability. I care about process, but only when it removes confusion and gives teams better control. I care about speed, but not at the cost of production risk or poor execution.

Most of my work has taught me that good technology leadership is about balance:

  • Moving fast, but with control
  • Improving platforms, without breaking what already works
  • Supporting business urgency, without creating technical debt blindly
  • Giving teams structure, without slowing them down
  • Solving today’s problem, while keeping tomorrow’s scale in mind

Current Focus

My current work is centred on live commerce platforms where delivery speed, uptime, customer experience and operational control all matter at the same time.

This includes platform modernisation, team leadership, production release planning, third-party integrations, performance improvement, compliance-aware delivery and making sure engineering decisions remain aligned with business goals.

I also spend a lot of time around the less visible side of software delivery, the part that keeps platforms stable after launch. Things like release approvals, incident response, monitoring, vendor accountability, data protection expectations and making sure the right people own the right decisions.

A Few Areas I Keep Coming Back To

These are the areas that naturally keep pulling my attention:

  • Building cleaner platform foundations
  • Reducing avoidable production issues
  • Improving delivery visibility between business and engineering
  • Making systems easier to operate and support
  • Designing better workflows for development and QA
  • Using automation where it creates consistency
  • Keeping architecture understandable for the people who maintain it
  • Turning vague business needs into workable technical direction

About This GitHub

This GitHub profile is a space where I keep technical work, experiments, references and ideas connected to the kind of problems I work with.

You may find projects or notes around platform thinking, backend systems, integrations, eCommerce operations, performance, automation or engineering workflow improvements.

It is not limited to one language, tool or framework. My interest is broader than that, how technology is planned, built, delivered and kept reliable in real business environments.

Connect With Me

Feel free to reach out if you want to discuss software engineering, eCommerce platforms, architecture, delivery governance, production reliability or digital transformation.
