refactor(core): extract the serve redirect rules into a pure function (AI-assisted) - #12871
Extract the redirect rules of the docusaurus serve request handler into a pure function, so they can be unit tested without starting a server.
getRedirectLocation(url, {baseUrl, trailingSlash}) returns where to redirect a request, or undefined to serve it. The rules move as is: each redirect(res, location); return; becomes return location;, and the handler applies the result. No behavior change.
getRedirectLocation is not exported yet: the PR that adds its unit tests will export it, otherwise Knip reports an unused export.
Follows #12865, and prepares #12858, which adds the serve test suite.
Test Plan
Ran the same matrix of 162 requests against docusaurus serve built from main before refactor(core): extract the serve request handler into its own module (AI-assisted) #12865 and from this branch: 6 baseUrl/trailingSlash configs × clean URLs, .html, folders, assets, query strings, encoded paths, paths outside the baseUrl. The status, Location and served file are identical, including the 4 encoded café requests that crash the server with the same error log.
Improved redirect handling for served sites with a base path. Requests with missing or out-of-base URLs now redirect to the base path, and non-asset URLs are redirected to a normalized trailing-slash URL when needed.
… (AI-assisted)
getRedirectLocation(url, {baseUrl, trailingSlash}) returns where to
redirect a request, or undefined to serve it. The rules are unchanged,
and the handler only applies the result.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The serve request handler now uses getRedirectLocation to select redirects before rewriting the request URL and calling serveHandler. The helper handles missing or out-of-base URLs, asset-like URLs, and trailing-slash normalization.

Summary
Redirect decision and request handling packages/docusaurus/src/commands/serve/requestHandler.ts
getRedirectLocation returns a redirect location for missing or out-of-base URLs, or for normalized non-asset URLs when baseUrl is not /. The request handler redirects when the helper returns a location; otherwise, it rewrites the URL and calls serveHandler.
No actionable merge-blocking risk was identified in the redirect-helper extraction. Mergeable subject to normal checks.

Explanation
The title names the main change: the serve redirect rules are extracted into a pure function. The raw summary confirms that createServeRequestHandler now delegates redirect selection to getRedirectLocation, and the PR objectives describe the same extraction. The title is concise and specific. The '(AI-assisted)' suffix is noise but does not make the title misleading.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 1 files.
