What

Agent Network can now be activated on NetBird Cloud, and the Cloud setup offers a NetBird-managed private proxy. The quickstart only described the self-hosted install, so Cloud users had no documented path. This PR adds one next to the self-hosted path.

One file changed: src/pages/agent-network/quickstart.mdx. No URLs changed, and every existing anchor still exists.

Changes

  • Top note and description: "open source and self-hosted" becomes "open source, and you can run it on NetBird Cloud or self-host it". The release-candidate warning moves into the self-hosted section, where it applies.
  • New "Choose Where to Run Agent Network": explains that Agent Network needs a NetBird account and a private proxy that serves the endpoint, then offers Cloud or self-hosted. It also says when not to use the managed proxy: if LLM requests must stay on your own infrastructure, choose Deploy a new proxy or self-host.
  • New "Before You Begin" (both paths): a device that can run the NetBird client, access to an LLM provider (an API key, or the URL of a gateway or self-hosted model), and an agent or client to test with.
  • New "Set Up on NetBird Cloud":
    • Cloud Requirements: a NetBird Cloud account; the owner or admin role when adding Agent Network to an existing account; your own server only if you choose Deploy a new proxy.
    • Activate Agent Network: the activation link, what changes for a new account (focused view) and an existing one (the menu is added), and the guided setup steps. The proxy step gives Managed proxy and your own proxy (an existing private proxy or Deploy a new proxy) separate instructions.
    • What the guided setup changes on a new account: it creates a Users group, adds a starter policy, and removes the permissive Default access control policy.
  • "Set Up Self-Hosted": the existing requirements and install script, now grouped under Self-Hosted Requirements. Adds one sentence saying the script already deploys the private proxy.
  • Shared steps:
    • When the endpoint is created: when you connect your first provider on self-hosted, and when you set up the proxy on Cloud.
    • A note for the "reverse proxy cluster with private capabilities" warning in Connect Provider: the shared Cloud proxy cluster can't serve an agent network endpoint.
    • Create a Policy tells new Cloud accounts that the starter policy already exists.

Verification

  • Step order, button labels (Managed proxy, Deploy a new proxy), the Users group, the starter policy, removal of the Default policy, and the owner/admin condition come from the dashboard source on main (src/modules/onboarding/agent-network/, src/cloud/contexts/NetBirdCloudProvider.tsx).
  • The private-cluster requirement comes from management (validateGatewayCluster in management/internals/modules/agentnetwork/manager.go) and the Connect Provider modal. On a Cloud account, GET /api/reverse-proxies/clusters returns the shared cluster with "private": false.
  • npm run lint:mdx passes. Rendered locally, and every in-page link resolves to a heading on the rendered page.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Expanded the Agent Network quickstart to cover NetBird Cloud and self-hosted deployments, including setup paths, proxy options, and endpoint creation.
    • Added guidance on default groups and policies, starter policies for new Cloud accounts, and troubleshooting when no private proxy is available.

Agent Network can now be activated on NetBird Cloud, with a NetBird-managed private proxy. The quickstart only described the self-hosted install. Adds a choice between Cloud and self-hosted, shared prerequisites, a Cloud setup section with its own requirements, and a note for the private-cluster requirement when connecting a provider.

A rabbit reads the setup guide,
From Cloud to self-host, paths aligned.
A proxy waits, a key is near,
The endpoint shows when providers appear.
Then off I hop, with docs held dear.

The Cloud setup step only told readers to choose Managed proxy, even when they had been pointed to Deploy a new proxy to keep LLM requests on their own infrastructure. Each choice now has its own instruction, and the own-proxy path links to Clusters.
