Adds an AI Git Writer entry to the menu of PromptOps. From your notes and the git activity of a repository it writes an email, developer documentation, a changelog, a status report or a handover, and saves it in docs/.

| Works with | Claude Code. The model runs with no tools, and Claude is the only CLI that can do that today |
| Status | Version 0.1.2. Runs in the plugin sandbox of the desktop app. See MIGRATION.md for what differs from the built-in tool |
Where the code is. All of it is in src/plugin.js: one file of plain JavaScript, with no build step. What you read there is exactly what PromptOps runs, and what was reviewed.
- Five documents: email, documentation, changelog, status report, handover.
- You pick a repository on the page. The writer then knows the branch, the changed files, the recent commits and the diff. Three switches decide what goes in.
- For an email you choose who it is for and the tone. For every document you choose the language and the Claude model.
- You can edit the result, ask for a revision in plain words, copy it, or save it in
docs/of the repository. - It remembers your settings, never your content.
People approve these permissions before installing. The plugin has no network permission at all: what it reads from your repository has nowhere to go except into the prompt you approve.
| Permission | Meaning |
|---|---|
git:read |
Read branch, changed files, commits and diff of a repository you pick on its page |
ai:generate |
Run a prompt on your own Claude, with no tools and no file access. You see and confirm every prompt |
workspace:write |
Write text files in the docs/ folder of that repository. You confirm every file |
storage |
Keep its own small local data: your last settings |
- The plugin never sees a path. PromptOps lists your folders, you pick one, and the plugin receives a handle that works only for it and only until the app closes.
- Before anything runs you see the full prompt, diff included, and decide. The model runs with no tools: it cannot read your files, run commands or go online. It can only answer with text.
- Before anything is written you see the full file and whether it replaces one. Only
docs/can be written. - The page is drawn by PromptOps from plain data. No HTML, CSS or script comes from the plugin.
Clone the plugin templates next to this repository and point the playground at it:
git clone https://github.com/shellonback/promptops-plugin-templates
git clone https://github.com/shellonback/promptops-plugin-git-writer
cd promptops-plugin-templates
node playground/server.mjs --plugin ../promptops-plugin-git-writerOpen http://127.0.0.1:4173 and choose local:promptops-plugin-git-writer. In Fixtures mode the repository and the answers come from fixtures.json, so it works offline. In Live mode the playground runs the claude CLI of your machine, with no tools.
Zero dependencies, Node 18 or later:
node --testThe tests load src/plugin.js with a fake SDK. They check the prompts, the cleaning of the answer, the file name, what happens on a "no", and that the manifest asks for no network.
