Banned, Blocked, and Stuck — Thanks, Val.town #821
The founder of Val.town has now resorted to banning accounts that use MHR — and of course, mine got caught in the crossfire. I can't create new accounts on similar services, so I'm completely stuck. And to top it off, I don't even have a VPN configuration to temporarily get around this. So what the hell am I supposed to do now?
@(author) — sorry to hear about the ban. The val.town founder asked us to redact the name from the project (we did in v1.9.10), but pre-existing val.town deployments + accounts are now getting purged in retaliation. Bad situation for users caught in the crossfire.
Alternative hosts that work today:
Deno Deploy (deno.com/deploy) — same web-standard fetch handler API as our assets/exit_node/exit_node.ts. Deploy via deployctl deploy --prod exit_node.ts or via GitHub Actions. Free tier covers personal use.
fly.io — free tier with limits. Wrap the handler in Deno.serve(handler) + Dockerfile. Persistent IPs.
Cloudflare Pages Functions (NOT Workers) — has separate egress IPs from Workers; some users report it works.
For the "I have no VPN at all to set up an account" problem: Deno Deploy signup works from Iran without VPN (signup is on deno.com directly, not blocked). Same for GitHub Actions path (just GitHub, which most Iranian users already have). Either gets you out without needing a VPN.
For the immediate need — ChatGPT / Claude / Grok access — the GitHub Actions Full tunnel path (v1.9.15) is the lowest-friction option since you already have the GitHub account commenting here. 6-hour sessions, repeatable, no accounts to set up.
Closing — sorry again about the ban; the platform's call. mhrv-rs's design is host-agnostic so users can move between hosts without code changes.
